Have You Lost Your Mobile Phone? Don’t worry, the Government of India will Help You Find Your Mobile Phone!

If a thief snatches your phone or you lose it, the Government of India has taken steps to help you find it. In most cases, the real owners never get their lost phones back. The Government of India has introduced a mobile tracking system for end users. With the help of this system, you can track your phone’s location across India.

This initiative is a significant boost and provides assurance against theft and lost phones, especially for Android users. The Indian government is ready to launch the latest mobile tracking system on May 17, 2023. This initiative allows individuals to block or track their lost or stolen mobile phones across India.

This particular initiative not only helps people find their phones but also has long-term benefits for the country’s GDP and enhances the security and safety of mobile users.

The initiative will be implemented on a pan-India basis. Many times, thieves steal phones and commit crimes using the stolen devices. Innocent individuals can get arrested while the real criminals go free. With this initiative, every person will be safe and able to secure their mobile devices.

What is the mobile tracking system?

This initiative was launched with the help of CDOT (the Center for Department of Telematics), a technology development body. The pilot project for this system was run by the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) system in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and the North-Eastern states. Now CDOT is all set to launch it nationwide, as quoted by telecommunications authorities.

How does the mobile tracking system work?

Any tracking system works with the help of an IMEI number, and this system also uses the mobile’s IMEI number to track or block the phone.

The IMEI number is a unique 15-digit numeric identifier for a mobile device. Telecom operators will have access to a list of approved IMEI numbers, which will be used to check the entry of any unauthorized mobile phones on their networks. Since the Government of India has made it mandatory to disclose the IMEI number to the government before selling, it has become easier to locate mobile devices.

Thieves are becoming smarter and may change the IMEI number. If they create a new IMEI number, it will be automatically detected and filtered, allowing the device to be blocked.

Note: Apple users already have a tracking system through their Apple ID. With the help of this system, citizens can block or unblock their phones once they are found. They can also check the status of their request to block a lost phone.

Why Does the Government Need to Launch This Initiative?

The mobile tracking system, brought to you by the CEIR, aims to make it easy for individuals to find their lost or stolen devices and block them throughout India. It discourages mobile theft and enables users to track their stolen devices. It also helps detect cloned IMEI phones, discouraging criminal activities and protecting consumer interests by increasing awareness of their mobile devices.

Pilot Project of Mobile Tracking System in Karnataka

Recently, the Karnataka team recovered more than 2,500 mobile devices and safely returned them to their owners using this system. The portal also blocked over 470,000 lost mobiles and tracked more than 240,000 mobiles throughout the pilot project. This initiative makes it difficult to use stolen mobile devices.

You can take action instantly and find your phone within 24 hours. Once a complaint is registered with the IMEI number, the information will be uploaded onto the CEIR web portal, and your phone will be blocked. This initiative also secures Android phones, not just Apple phones.
